Environmental Benefits

Spertech’s dedication to environmental quality led to the development of a revolutionary method of producing wallboard. The unique and patented process for developing Spertech’s Greentech Wallboard™ provides two specific environmental benefits:

Eliminating waste disposal of fly ash and saving landfill space
Coal is the source of up to 85% of electricity generated in the United States, and annually produces more than 60 million tons of fly ash, a residue by-product of coal-fired electric plants. Currently, this fly ash is released into the atmosphere, buried in landfills, or illegally dumped into oceans. Greentech Wallboard is produced from fly ash, a material that would otherwise be deposited in the waste stream.

Using an emissions-free development process
It’s estimated that more than 12% of greenhouse gasses worldwide are generated during the production of construction materials. Drywall is a calcined product, meaning that it’s manufactured by superheating mined gypsum to extremely high temperatures. This process produces at least 20 billion pounds of carbon dioxide annually. Greentech Wallboard requires no heating and does not leave a carbon footprint during manufacturing.
