Spertech Announces Greentech Wallboard™, an Environmentally Sustainable Alternative to Standard Drywall

Company Engineers Patented, Eco-Friendly Wallboard Technology

(SANTA FE, NM – October 27, 2008) In response to the lack of green alternatives to conventional drywall manufacturing, Spertech today announced Greentech Wallboard. This patented wallboard technology is developed from recycled materials without producing harmful carbon emissions during the manufacturing process.

“Drywall is the most common indoor building material in the United States, but it’s produced in a manner that’s highly energy-intensive, emitting an excessive amount of greenhouse gasses,” said Edwin Brasch, president and chief executive officer at Spertech. “With Greentech Wallboard, Spertech is developing a commercially viable alternative to traditional drywall that’s emissions-free. We’re now in the stage of business development where we’re actively pursuing partners to license this innovative technology.”

Greentech Wallboard contains the same strength and density of standard drywall, but utilizes a unique method of development. Rather than superheating mined gypsum to high temperatures, a manufacturing technique that generates carbon dioxide emissions, Greentech Wallboard is comprised of 98% fly ash, a residue by-product of coal-fired electric plants that would otherwise be deposited in landfills or released into the atmosphere. This ground-breaking material science does not require heating, and therefore leaves virtually no carbon footprint during manufacturing.

Fly ash has been safely used for years in other construction materials, including cement and concrete, and is classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a non-hazardous waste. According to some estimates, approximately 40,000,000 tons of fly ash are dumped in landfills every year.

About Spertech

Spertech developed the next generation of wallboard. The company engineered a patented technology for an environmentally friendly alternative to drywall. Its Greentech Wallboard performs like standard drywall, but does not utilize the conventional superheating manufacturing process that generates harmful carbon emissions. Instead, Greentech Wallboard is produced from recycled materials that would otherwise be disposed of in landfills. Spertech is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
